Creativity As a Survival Skill

It is every person's greatest resource
It is a skill that can be honed with practice
It is as natural as breathing
You may think that it is unique to me or others like me
But creativity is the mysterious superpower that every human has

There is a misunderstanding a misapprehension
That there are creatives and non creatives
But this distinction is one of purpose not ability
Everyone is creative but to be an artist is a different thing entirely
My talent is a way of seeing a way of understanding
My gift is a level of empathy that many cannot fathom
My responsibility is one of guidance and expression
To be an artist is not an elite clique of cool kids
But a labor a ministry a privilege to be held in the highest and gravest regard
A vanguard a rear guard and a check in between
For a war subtle obvious invisible and well seen
All hands on deck all abilities welcome

And as for you yes you
Look again at your life
And all the ways you are already creative:
Wander with wonder
Abstract play act
Be il- non- pro- literal
Build deconstruct subject and object
Observe this synthesis with intent and respect
Dream
A dream as whole
A dream of great
A dream in parts
Treat your creativity like the treasure that it is
Own it but don't hold it
For our survival depends on it
